    Fall Welcome Week Agenda

    THURSDAY, AUGUST 24TH – Welcome to Ship

    Your first night will be an exciting one as we kick off Fall Welcome Week with hypnotist Josh McVicar! Afterward, you will have a chance to meet more of your new Shipmates during the First Mates’ Hang Out.


    5:00 PM-6:00 PM - FALL WELCOME WEEK (FWW) CHECK-IN

    All new students will receive FWW materials including a schedule, a drawstring bag, and other important items. If you attended orientation but did not receive your ID, visit the airport lounge to pick up your ID.
     

    5:00 PM-6:00 PM - RAIDER, SET, GO. CUB

    If you did not receive your SU ID at orientation, you must get your ID picture taken and printed here. 

    VEHICLE REGISTRATION. CUB 125 (Airport Lounge)
    Students who have completed the parking pass registration can pick up their parking decals at this location during move-in day. Students must register and pay by credit card online at parking.ship.edu before arriving at this location. Please bring your SU ID to receive your pass.

    UPS STORE. Outside of CUB
    After checking in for FWW, visit the UPS Store at the rear of the CUB to pick up your mailbox key.

    6:00 PM-7:00 PM - COMMUTER CONNECTION DINNER. Meet for dinner in CUB MPR B/C (Required)
    Enjoy a meal with our Student Ambassadors and other new commuter students before we kick off Fall Welcome Week. Dinner tickets are provided.
     
    7:00 PM-7:45 PM - COMMUTER MEET AND GREET. CUB MPR B/C (Required)
    Engage with other commuter students to learn more about parking, dining, studying, and getting involved on campus while commuting from home. This is also an opportunity to meet your Student Ambassadors that will be assisting you throughout your Fall Welcome Week experience.
     
    8:00 PM-9:30 PM - WELCOME TO SHIP. Luhrs Performing Arts Center (LPAC)  (Required)
    This is your official welcome and start to your career as a Shippensburg University Raider! Catch a performance by the SU Marching Band and hypnotist Josh McVicar.
     
    9:30 PM-11:30 PM - FIRST MATES’ HANG OUT. CUB Amphitheater (Rain Location: ShipRec)
    Get to know your classmates in an atmosphere of food, fun, games, and music. This is a night you won’t want to miss, hosted by the one and only Big Red and first mate Shippo!
     

    FRIDAY, AUGUST 25TH – ACADEMIC DAY

    Your first day of class is rapidly approaching! We want you to start your first semester off right. Academic Day programming is required for all new students and highlights important tools and resources as you start your academic career at Ship. Meet your First-Year Experience (FYE) Peer Anchor and engage in small activities to get to know other students in your UNIV 101 class. Transfer students can meet fellow transfers and get tips on getting ready for the first day of classes.

    Additionally, you will meet with leadership from your academic college and faculty from your department who will guide you toward degree completion.

    After Academic Day, get some rest because you will not want to miss what we have planned for you. Join Big Red for our New Student Cookout and your new shipmates at Let’s Glow Crazy!

    Reminder: Please bring these items with you throughout your entire day: name tag, FWW bag, agenda packet, and a pen.

    Go to breakfast and then walk to Convocation with our Student Ambassadors.

    Join your Student Ambassador and new classmates for your first breakfast together. Bring the following items to get the most out of your day: a name tag, an FWW bag, an agenda packet, and a pen. Commuters will be given a meal ticket.
     
    9:00 AM-9:30 AM - NEW STUDENT T-SHIRT HANDOUTLPAC. (Required)
    As part of your official welcome to Shippensburg University, come pick up your Ship t-shirt! You will wear your shirt during Convocation -- the official kickoff to the new academic year!
     
    9:30 AM-10:30 AM - NEW STUDENT CONVOCATION. LPAC (Required)
    There will be two times in your academic career at Ship when you will be with your entire class: Convocation and Commencement. Don’t miss this important opening to your academic career and hear from this year’s faculty keynote speaker.
     
    10:45 AM-11:35 AM - INTRO TO UNIVERSITY 101. Various Locations (Students
    receive a text with their group number and location.)

    Get together with your FYE seminar classmates and learn more about the program ahead. They will provide tips and tricks to help you succeed in your classes from day one!
     
    11:50 AM-12:50 PMMAKING YOUR FIRST YEAR THE BEST YEAR! LPAC (Required)
    Engage in a real discussion on how to make the best out of your college experience while staying safe and having fun. Led by host Daryl McGraw.
     
    12:50 PM- 3:00 PM - THE RAIDER CHALLENGE. Various Locations (Required)
    Connect further with your FYE seminar classmates to complete real and imaginary ground-based obstacles (either natural or constructed) that challenge them to use their resources and work to find solutions.
     
    1:00 PM-3:00 PMLUNCH WITH YOUR PEER ANCHOR AND FYE CLASS. Reisner Dining Hall (Required)
    Enjoy lunch with your classmates and Peer Anchor/Student Ambassador. Bring your SU ID to swipe for your meals. Commuters, ask your FWW Leader for meal tickets. Lunchtime will be determined by your group number.

    SATURDAY, AUGUST 26TH – RAIDER DAY

    Now that you’re familiar with the campus, we are excited to share the beauty of Shippensburg! Join your new Shipmates outside as you explore campus recreation facilities and downtown Shippensburg. Then celebrate your first weekend as a Raider at Big Red’s Block Party where you will enjoy music, games, crafts, and more! We will end the night with our signature event: Breakfast Bingo!

    Wildlife viewers of all ages can hike, bike, or walk on the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail that follows the abandoned Cumberland Valley railroad. Students can walk the trail anytime throughout the day. Click here for information about the Rail Trail.

    10:00 AM - YOGA. Student Rec Pavilion/Hockey Rink (Rain Location: ShipRec)
    Need to relax and refocus before the first day of class. Join our restorative yoga class to ease your mind and body. The first 50 to attend will receive a free yoga mat. Students are encouraged to bring a yoga mat, towel, or blanket for this class.
     
    10:00 AM-3:00 PM - DISC GOLF. Visit ship.edu/shiprec for a course map
    Explore Ship’s nine-hole disc golf course that starts near Burd Run Pavilion, runs throughout the Student Recreation Complex, and concludes outside Seavers Hall. Play with a partner or a group. Disc golf is a great way to get out and have fun with your new Shipmates! Discs can be checked out at the ShipRec with your SU ID.
     
    10:00 AM-3:00 PM - SHIPSHAPE BIKE RIDE. Sign out your bike at the ShipRec
    Take a ride around campus, explore downtown Shippensburg, or enjoy the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail. Bikes can be checked out at the ShipRec with your SU ID. For more information, visit ship.edu/recreation.

    11:00 AM-3:00 PM - 42nd ANNUAL CORN FESTIVAL. Meet at the FWW Hospitality Desk (CUB 1st Floor Desk outside of Orndorff Theatre)for the bus downtown
    The Corn Festival is a Shippensburg tradition, taking place on the last Saturday in August on King Street. The event draws hundreds of vendors and thousands of visitors annually! Students can discover the student-friendly and beautiful downtown while enjoying this “corny” tradition. Buses will leave every 20 minutes to take groups downtown.

    Join one of Ship’s most popular campus traditions, Breakfast Bingo! Fill up on delicious breakfast classics like bacon, french toast, and eggs while getting to know the people who work at Ship. Play Bingo, win amazing prizes, and have a blast with your new Shipmates! With so many prizes to give away, dozens of you will be leaving with gift cards, Ship swag, gift baskets, or even an electric scooter TV! Doors open at 9:45 PM.     SUNDAY, AUGUST 27th – RAIDER READY DAY
    Classes begin tomorrow, so Sunday will be a day for you to get ready for your first day of class and relax.

    The Office of Accessibility Resources will be hosting an open house for students to stop by at your convenience to learn about resources for students with disabilities and the process to request accommodations, tour the space, and meet OAR staff. Current OAR students can request and print their Accommodation letters for the fall semester during the open house. Any questions regarding OAR and resources, please email oar@ship.edu.

    What better way to cool off on a Sunday afternoon than with an ice cream sundae? Stop by the CUB for a free ice cream sundae from the Student Government Association (SGA). Enjoy your sundae, meet other students, and learn how SGA advocates for students and how you can get involved!

    Meet the student leaders and staff of MSA. They will share the services and events designed to assist you in succeeding at Ship. It is their goal to help you see that Ship can and will be your home away from home if you take advantage of the services available to you.
