    Hops for Brewing

    Have you thought about growing locally-sourced ingredients for the craft beer industry? 

    This hybrid, self-paced course will provide you with an overview of the brewing industry and the information you need to learn about the agricultural aspects of crafting the perfect brew. 

    You'll also have the opportunity to meet with local hop farmers and brewers to grow your connections in the brewing industry, and you'll receive a hop rhizome so you can grow your own hop plant this spring. 

    Course Format

    The course will run from January through May with different opportunities to meet online and in person. Most of the lectures will be provided as recorded zoom PowerPoints, so participants can learn at their own pace and schedule with synchronous zoom meetings to allow participants to ask questions, talk to the instructors, and get additional information.

    Several social gatherings will be planned when the weather is appropriate and it is safe to meet outside where students will be able to meet and talk to local brewers. The course will culminate with a reception between potential hop growers and brewers to have a candid discussion on the pros and cons of locally sourced ingredients.

    When: The first meeting will be January 11 at 7:00 PM, and additional meetings will be scheduled based on participant availability and COVID restrictions.

    Cost: $100*

    Cost includes:
     All instructional materials, tastings, and most meals and refreshments. Participants will also receive a book on hops, a hop rhizome to grow in the spring.
